Government of Maharashtra, Irrigation Department encourages the formation of Water User's Association (WUAs) on the irrigation projects in the state. 

Directorate of Irrigation Research & Development (DIRD), Pune, monitors the following activities of formation of WUA's in the state. 

• Compilation of fourmonthly statistical report of WUA's in the Maharashtra State. 

• Compilation of quarterly report of proposed WUA's under construction projects.
