Water Sector Reforms are under active consideration of the State Government. The reforms aim at empowering the people at large to involve in the decision making process.

Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority MWRRA
Maharashtra Water Resources Regulatory Authority bill has been passed by the Legislative Council on 7th April 2005. The Authority has regulated sectoral allocation, water rates, changes in water use/diversion of water use and compensation for such changes in water use. The bill is available on this web site. Maharashtra a management of Irrigation system by Farmers (MMISF) :
The act is stand alone act which will strengthen further the operation of water users Associations in the state. The ordinance of Maharashtra a management of Irrigation system by Farmers is passed by the Legislative Assembly on the 13th April 2005. MMISF is available on this web site (see links)
State Water Policy (SWP):
The state water policy has been adopted in July 2003 with objective of ensuring sustainable development and optimal use and management of the State’s Water Resources to provide the greatest economic and social benefit for the people of the State. Irrigation Act 1976 Revision & Rules:
Revision of Irrigation Act 1976 & rules these under is in process.
Dam Safety Act:
Dam safety Act is drafted and it is under process of approval.
Canal Operation and Maintenance Manual:
Canal operation and Maintenance Manual is prepared and it is under process of approval.
Model Agreement for Non-Irrigation Water use (NIWURA):
Model Agreement for Non-Irrigation Water use is revised vide Govt. circular No. Bipapu 1001/(713/2001)/I.M.C.P.) dt.11.6.2003. It also contains detail guidelines.
